A journey to discover the lower Ossola area can begin in Ornavasso which is really a unique place.
There are many cultural attractions worth
visiting: the Sanctuary of the Madonna del
Boden, the San Nicola church as well as
the sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna
della Guardia which stands above the
town of Ornavasso.
The Old Marble Quarry (during Christmas
time: Santa Claus’s Cave) is famous for
having supplied the raw material to build
the façade of the Certosa di Pavia, the
Duomo di Pavia, the Milan Cathedral and
the Arco della Pace in Milan.

Meeting Point is Laveno
parking Gaggetto (free parking).
9.05 am
Then we will take the ferry to Intra.
From Intra we go by car to Ornavasso
10.00 am
We start to hike to the Santuary of the
Madonna di Boden (1.5h, 350m attitude)
12.00 pm
Lunch at the Antica Trattoria del Boden
(15 euro menu, primo-secondo-wine-water)
1.30 pm
We continue to walk back passing the
Church Madonna della Guardia and the
San Nicola church in Ornavasso (4.5km)
3.30 pm
We take the ferry back to Laveno
This hike is not difficult but there is an altitude
difference of 350m and a total lenght to hike of 6km.
Please wear good shoes! In case of bad weather
this hike will be postponed by one week.
