Guided Tour of Palazzo Branda Castiglioni and Museum of Plastics Art in Castiglione Olona
Palazzo Branda Castiglioni in Castiglione Olona was the residence of Cardinal Branda Castiglioni, from whom it takes its name.
The building was owned by Cardinal Branda Castiglioni who from the 15th century transformed the entire village of Castiglione into the first example of an "Ideal City of Humanism". The palace is frescoed with works by important artists of the time such as Masolino da Panicale and Lorenzo di Pietro known as Il Vecchietta.
Following its acquisition by the Municipality of Castiglione Olona around the 1980 s by the last descendant of the family, Count Ludovico Castiglioni (Milan, 1921 - Castiglione Olona, 2000), the private residence was transformed into a civic museum.
Plastic s Art Museum : On 5th June, 2004 the [MAP] Plastics Art Museum was inaugurated by Castiglione Olona municipality. The museum is set up in the frescoed rooms of the fourteenth - century Castiglioni di Monteruzzo Palace , and it presents an original collection of more than fifty artworks from the „70s. . Many artists at the time participated at the initiative of “Polimere Arte” and several of their works have been exposed in occasion of high - profile exhibitions, both national and international.
The English guided visit starts at 9.45am at Palazzo Branda Castiglione, Piazza Garibaldi, at Castiglione Olona. Then we are going to the Museum of Plastics Art.
